Round or Hex at This Weight?

• Round — the commercial standard, racks cleanly, rubber absorbs impact. Best if you have a proper rack.
• Hex — will not roll, so better on an open apartment floor with no rack.

At 35–40 kg the rolling issue matters more than at light weights — a 40 kg dumbbell rolling across a tiled floor is worth avoiding. Full comparison in our hex vs round guide.

One Practical Note

A pair of 40 kg dumbbells is 80 kg arriving at your door. Make sure you have somewhere to put them before they arrive — ideally a rack, not the floor.
